Dena Ashbolt


Award Winning Artist represented by Alcaston Gallery Melbourne and Commercials Director with Window Productions Sydney. 

Dena is currently a research doctoral candidate at Monash University, Melbourne in Fine Art. 

Working from her studio base at Wedgetail estate winery in the Yarra Valley, Ashbolt’s art practice centers on works that engage with perception and the passing of time. She observes the passing of time as evinced by movement and her works explore the relationship between observational drawing/painting and the photographic/cinematographic lens.

Ashbolt has participated in many group exhibitions and has had several solo shows in Australia and Europe.  Her work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy, London as part of their Summer Exhibition and she has been the recipient of a UK Arts Council Grant.  Locally she has undertaken Artist’s residencies in Clifton Pugh’s paint studio at Dunmoochin and the Pool Studio, Montsalvat.

In 2009 she was awarded the Nillumbik Shire Art Prize for the video drawing “Wet Feet Under the Pier”, and in 2010 was a finalist in both the Williamstown Contemporary Art Prize and the Rick Amor Drawing Prize. In 2012, Ashbolt’s video drawing Green Car on the Freeway was displayed at the Gallery of Ballart.  She was selected as finalist in the 2012 Rick Amor Drawing Prize, Gallery of Ballarat, and the Paul Guest Prize, Bendigo Art Gallery and was awarded highly commended at The Nillumbik Prize, Victoria

As a commercials director for over 15 years her client experience ranges from vast landscape images for Vic Tourism, to more intimate mother and new born baby moments for Johnson & Johnson.  She is known for her work with children and visual story-telling skills.
